Fireworks celebration ends in fatal accident in Wallace
WALLACE, N.C. — A man died after a tragic accident outside the Wallace Moose Lodge Saturday night following a fireworks celebration, according to Wallace Police Chief Jimmy Crayton. The incident happened at the Wallace Moose Lodge, which is located near the Wallace-Pender Airport. According to the preliminary investigation, the man was sitting in a chair directly in front of a pickup truck. Police say he was positioned in a way that prevented the driver from seeing him. As the driver pulled away from the event, the truck struck the man. The victim later died from his injuries. Chief Crayton said the Wallace Police Department consulted with the Pender County District Attorney's Office. Based on the investigation, no criminal charges will be filed. The man's identity has not been released.
