Fayette County man in court months after fatal wreck
FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn. — A man accused of killing a Fayette County woman in a DUI wreck seven months ago faced a court date Wednesday. Olen Rhea is charged with vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. A preliminary hearing in his case was set for Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. Boone's family confronted Rhea in court Wednesday. The two-vehicle crash happened in early January in the 6900 block of Highway 59 in Somerville, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol. Gabrielle Boone, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical examiner a few minutes later. Rhea was not at the scene and had not called 911, troopers said. State troopers say after the wreck, Rhea left an 11-year-old child behind in his BMW. The child told troopers Rhea was driving when they had the wreck. Empty bottles of Tito’s vodka were in view in the car, troopers said. Troopers searched in some woods east of the crash and say they found Rhea lying on the ground, with one shoe missing. He told them he was trespassing and was hunting, although he had no firearm.
