Father sacrifices life to save son in kayaking accident on SoCal lake

A man tragically lost his life after rescuing his young son during a boating accident in Riverside County, California. According to California State Parks officials, the 54-year-old father and his son were playing offshore when their kayak overturned near Moreno Beach at Lake Perris State Recreation Area. The father heroically kept his son above water until rescue personnel arrived. Despite efforts to save him, the man passed away at Riverside University Health System, while his son was hospitalized for evaluation. Visitors at the park, like Michelle Juarez, witnessed the intense rescue efforts. It's important to note that neither the father nor the son was wearing a life jacket, which is required by law for children 12 and under on any moving recreational vessel in California. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
