Fatal single-vehicle crash investigated on Johns Island: CCSO
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - Deputies are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that happened on Wednesday evening on Johns Island. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says its deputies responded to Bohicket Road and Clam Digger Court, and the agency's initial investigations indicate the vehicle was traveling toward Kiawah Island when the "driver ran off the road, struck a tree, overturned, and caught fire." According to the report, debris from the vehicle that hit the tree flew onto the roadway, where it struck another vehicle. The driver who was impacted by the debris was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. However, the driver who hit a tree was pronounced dead at the scene by Charleston EMS, and was also the only person in the vehicle. The Charleston County Coroner's Office will release the victim's identity when appropriate. CCSO’s Traffic Services Unit is investigating the crash. If anyone has any information that would assist in the investigation, they are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 843-202- 1700.
