Fatal plane crash in Poplar Grove claims life of 83-year-old Rockford man
POPLAR GROVE, Ill. (WTVO) — The Boone County Coroner has identified Richard McClung, 83, of Rockford, as the victim of a fatal plane crash in a Poplar Grove neighborhood over the weekend. First responders were called to the 300 block of Ridgestone Trail in the afternoon of Sunday, February 14. Residents described hearing a loud "engine revving noise" followed by a "big thud" as the plane came down. An autopsy concluded McClung died from injuries suffered in the crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation by both the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Coroner's Office, and the National Transportation Safety Board. Court records show McClung was a convicted sex offender stemming from two separate convictions in 2007 and 2014, involving minors.
