Fatal crash on I-79

An update to the previous information indicates that Golab was driving his personal vehicle at the time of the accident. Severe weather conditions on I-79 led to the tragic loss of life for an Erie resident on Thursday morning. The Mercer County coroner reported that 22-year-old Austin Golab lost his life in a multi-vehicle accident on I-79 just north of exit 122 in Mercer County. State police revealed that the incident occurred before noon, as a second tractor-trailer truck collided with a semi-truck that had come to a stop in the right lane due to traffic conditions. This collision caused the second truck to veer into the left lane, where Golab's vehicle tragically collided with it. The impact of this crash resulted in Golab's death from severe injuries to his head and chest, confirmed by the Mercer County coroner as accidental.
