Fatal Crash in Pittsburgh Blamed on Wintry Conditions
Officials from the city stated that the recent tragic crash resulting in the death of a Pittsburgh Public Schools student was likely due to wintry weather conditions. The incident occurred at the intersection of West Woodford Avenue and Brownsville Road on Dec. 19, 2025, where 17-year-old Ishara Kami, a senior at Carrick High School, lost her life after being struck by a vehicle. Vision Zero Pittsburgh mentioned that shortly after her passing, they determined that the adverse weather conditions that day led to reduced visibility and slippery roads, causing the driver to lose control and slide onto the sidewalk where Kami was standing. In response to the incident, Vision Zero Pittsburgh's Fatal Crash Response Team, in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Police Collision Investigation Unit, visited the site and announced plans for road improvements along Brownsville Road, including curb extensions at the West Woodford Avenue intersection, which are set to commence in 2027.
