Family of victim killed in Lufkin crash sues doctor for $1 million

LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) -- The family of a man who was killed in a Lufkin car crash on Jan. 17 is suing the pediatrician, George Fidone. A family is seeking $1 million from Lufkin pediatrician, George Fidone, for allegedly driving while intoxicated and killing husband and father, D. Marcus Hadnot, in a January car crash. The crash occurred on College Drive when a Mercedes, driven by Fidone, crashed into Hadnot's Kia at around 10:15 a.m. Hadnot and his dog, who were in the car, were later pronounced dead following the crash. Fidone told officers he was on his phone and allegedly admitted that the crash was his fault before heading to the hospital for minor injuries. He was later arrested after blood collected from the crash reported a 0.14 blood alcohol level, an arrest affidavit stated. He was booked into the Angelina County Jail and charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle. Two months later, on March 23, court records show a petition against Fidone was filed by D. Marcus's wife Paige Hadnot. According to Chip Ferguson, Paige's attorney, the family of D. Marcus has filed a lawsuit for an excess of $1 million for the fatal crash. "What happened to Paige Hadnot and her family is a tragedy beyond imagination," Ferguson told KETK News. "Unfortunately, it is a price Paige Hadnot and her 7-year-old daughter will pay for the rest of their lives." Ferguson also said Fidone should have "known better" as a medical doctor. "That narrative that we hear from George Fidone's camp is that because he is a doctor, he should be treated less severely," Ferguson said. "If anyone should know better, it would be a medical doctor." The Hadnots seek the highest amount they could under Texas law, Ferguson said. "If Fidone wants a more precise number, then he has to request it," Ferguson said. "We would be more than happy to provide a precise number."
