Family identifies victim of deadly Mattapan crash; suspect to be arraigned
A 45-year-old woman was killed in Boston, Massachusetts, on Saturday after a driver allegedly stole a car and struck her before crashing into an MBTA bus. Ibraim Matos, 37, of Hyde Park, was charged with murder, carjacking, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury.He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on Monday.Family members have identified the victim as Binty Johnson. Her sister told NewsCenter 5 her entire family is devastated by the loss.According to Boston police, officers responded to the 1600 block of Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan for a report of a pedestrian hit by a car around 2 p.m. Investigators said a man, later identified as Matos, was involved in a car crash at Woodhaven and Blue Hill Avenue. He allegedly stole another vehicle near a car wash, according to witnesses, and drove south on Blue Hill Avenue. Workers at the wash allegedly also tried to stop the carjacker.Matos then struck the victim at Fairway Street and Blue Hill Avenue, according to police. Video shows crowds gathered around Matos, holding him down until police arrived at the scene."You ain't going nowhere," one witness could be heard saying in the video."They were running in and calling the cops, someone hit a lady over there," said Jay, who works at a convenience store next to where the woman was struck.Traffic in the area remained closed off to motorists and drivers until 9 p.m. on Saturday.Matos was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries, officers said.No further information was immediately available.
