Family grieves 34-year-old father of 3, killed in South L.A. motorcycle crash

Family members and friends gathered to honor the legacy of a 34-year-old father of three, tragically killed in a collision while riding his motorcycle in Los Angeles last week. The March 29 incident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. in the 11700 block of Central Avenue in L.A.’s Green Meadows neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Details are limited and it’s unclear just exactly what happened, but medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department transported at least one person in a dark-colored two-door vehicle to the hospital in unknown condition. The motorcyclist, identified by family members as Dominique Hammond, was declared deceased at the scene. The second of seven children, according to a GoFundMe organized to help lay him to rest, Hammond was described as a devoted father who was kind, genuine and full of life. On Sunday evening, mourners gathered near the crash site where candles and a small memorial to the 34-year-old had been erected in his honor. A tow truck driver by trade, several tow trucks were spotted at the vigil, their lights blinking in memory of their fallen friend and colleague. “I wish we could’ve come together before this tragic moment happened, so that he could’ve seen how much everyone loved and adored him, especially his children and siblings,” Hammond’s mother, Stacey Anderson, told KTLA at the vigil. It’s unclear if there have been arrests in connection with the collision, though family members allege that the driver of the car involved in the collision was under the influence of alcohol. KTLA reached out investigators with the LAPD and is waiting to hear back.
