E-bike rider involved in deadly Davis collision with bicyclist was not at fault, police say

The rider of an electric bike involved in a deadly crash with a bicyclist in Davis was determined not to be at fault, according to police. On March 2, the Davis Police Department said officers responded to the area of West Covell Boulevard and Catalina Drive, which is near Davis High School, after reports of a crash. Julie Veress, the 60-year-old woman riding the bicycle, died at the scene. The juvenile boy on the e-bike suffered minor injuries. An investigation began after the crash. On Wednesday, Davis police said that investigation found the e-bike rider was not at fault. As Veress was merging onto the bike path from an adjoining path, she collided with the other rider, police said. The e-bike rider was not speeding and was on a Class 2 legal e-bike, which is permitted to travel on a multi-use path, according to police. Police said the crash investigation has concluded and been forwarded to the Yolo County District Attorney's Office for review. Veress was a registered nurse who worked at Sutter Davis Hospital.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
