Dump truck driver killed in Newburgh Heights crash: OSHP

NEWBURGH HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving a dump truck in Newburgh Heights on Friday afternoon. Investigators said the crash happened just after 3 p.m. on Harvard Avenue, close to Washington Park Boulevard. According to a preliminary investigation, the driver of a 2006 Mack dump truck was heading east on Harvard when they went off the right side of the road, hitting three utility poles. The truck then went across the center line, hitting a curb on the opposite side of the road, investigators said. The driver, identified as 61-year-old Winfield Starcher of Brook Park, died from injuries in the crash. Starcher was not wearing a seat belt at the time, state troopers said. Harvard Avenue was closed on Friday as crews worked to clear the scene. As of 7:30 p.m., the highway patrol said traffic was still being diverted. The fatal crash remains under investigation at this time.
