Driver severely hurt in Suffolk crash, sparking building fire
In Suffolk, Virginia, a driver sustained serious injuries when a vehicle collided with a building on Thursday morning, causing a fire. The Suffolk Fire & Rescue team responded to the 500 block of North Main Street at around 7:10 a.m. following reports of a vehicle engulfed in flames. Upon reaching the scene, firefighters found the building ablaze, as the vehicle had crashed through its side and caught fire. The driver managed to exit the vehicle and escape the fire before firefighters arrived. The driver was later transported to a trauma center with serious injuries. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 8:05 a.m. North Main Street is closed at Constance, North Main, and Prentis Street as a result of the incident. Dominion Energy is present to restore power to approximately 1,000 customers in Downtown who are currently without electricity following the incident. Investigations into the fire and traffic accident are being conducted by the Suffolk Fire Marshal's Office and the Suffolk Police Department, respectively.
