Motorcyclist hospitalized after rear-end crash on I-196, deputies say

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after she rear-ended a vehicle on a highway in Georgetown Township Thursday evening, deputies say. It happened just after 6 p.m. on westbound I-196 west of Kenowa Avenue, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. A backup had formed on the road after cargo spilled off a trailer onto the highway. In the left lane, a 42-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Equinox had slowed down for the backup and was rear-ended by a 25-year-old woman driving a Honda CBR motorcycle that did not slow enough, according to deputies. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time and had “significant injuries,” deputies said. She was taken to the hospital. The driver of the Equinox was not hurt and neither were any of his passengers, including three girls in the backseat, according to the sheriff's office. The highway was shut down to one lane for some time after the crash. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
