Cleveland woman killed in I-71 work zone crash

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — A Cleveland woman died after crashing into a work zone vehicle on Interstate 71 Thursday night, June 4. The Ohio State Highway Patrol released new information about the deadly crash on Friday, June 5. The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-71 near Bagley Road at about 11:30 p.m. According to the patrol, Christina Rivera, 31, of Cleveland, hit a work truck that was stopped in the far-right lane. The work truck had flashing yellow warning lights on and was protecting a paint crew working in the roadway, troopers said. Rivera was transported to the hospital, where she died from her injuries, the patrol reported. The driver of the work truck was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. No one else was injured. The interstate was closed for several hours during the investigation. State troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash.
