Driver killed in late-night crash on Coxton Road in Duryea
Police are investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a driver late Saturday night in Duryea. According to the Duryea Borough Police Department, officers were dispatched around 11 p.m. July 4 to the Falling Springs area in the Narrows section of Coxton Road after receiving multiple reports of a vehicle with heavy front-end damage stopped in the middle of the roadway. When officers, firefighters and EMS crews arrived, they found an unresponsive man in the driver's seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Luzerne County Coroner's Office responded to assist with the investigation. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing by the Duryea Borough Police Department and the Luzerne County Coroner's Office.
