Driver killed in high-speed SR-44 crash near Inwood Road in Shasta County
A vehicle traveling at a high speed crashed into a tree July 8 on State Route 44, killing the driver and sending a passenger to the hospital with suspected major injuries, according to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) collision report. At about 12:22 a.m. the Redding Communications Center was advised of a solo crash on SR-44 near Inwood Road, in an unincorporated area of Shasta County. A preliminary investigation found that a Nissan was traveling eastbound on SR-44 when it veered left, crossed the westbound lane and went onto the north shoulder, where it collided with a tree. The driver suffered major traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. A female passenger was transported to Mercy Hospital with suspected major injuries. CHP identified both occupants as Shingletown residents. Investigators said alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash. -- Report a correction or typo.
