Wanted fugitive taken into custody after Mona police chase ends in crash, shelter-in-place

A known gang member wanted in both Utah and Arizona was apprehended and taken into custody after a weeks-long search. A trooper attempted to stop Curtis Heiler, age 38, on May 30 for speeding and a window tint violation, but Heiler reportedly fled at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. The pursuit led to a crash on I-15 and a shelter-in-place order near Mona in Juab County. "Although Heiler managed to evade capture in the Mona area on the day of the incident, the Utah Highway Patrol, in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies, maintained a persistent search," officials with the Nephi City Police Department said in a press release. On Thursday, July 9, police confirmed Heiler was "successfully apprehended and is currently in custody." The Nephi City Police Department was not the leading agency in this investigation, but said they wanted to ensure residents remain informed.
