Driver dies after crash in Lexington with EMS vehicle taking pedestrian hit on East Center Street to hospital, police say
LEXINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) -- A driver died on Monday afternoon after a crash involving an EMS vehicle taking a pedestrian who had been hit to the hospital, according to a Lexington Police Department news release. At 1 p.m., Lexington police responded to the intersection of East Center Street at North Salisbury Street when they were told about a crash with injuries involving a vehicle hitting a pedestrian. Arriving officers found the pedestrian in critical condition from injuries related to the crash and identified him as Nate Long, age 31, of Lexington. Long was taken by Davidson County EMS to a hospital. The cause of the crash is still being investigated. At 1:21 p.m., while EMS was on the way to the hospital with Long, the EMS truck was involved in a crash with a vehicle on South Main Street near Prospect Drive. Lexington police responded to the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was found dead at the scene from apparent injuries from the crash. Davidson County EMS staff on board the EMS truck were medically evaluated, and no major injuries were reported. Following the crash on South Main Street, Long was transferred to another EMS vehicle and taken to a hospital, where he is being treated. LPD traffic crash investigators are still actively investigating both incidents. Currently, the cause of either crash is not being released at this time.
