Driver accused of fleeing state police dies in New Haven crash

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A driver who was allegedly fleeing Connecticut State Police died in a crash Tuesday in New Haven, according to New Haven police. Police said a dark-colored vehicle was traveling northbound on Ella T Grasso Boulevard between Washington Avenue and Truman Street when it collided with a white pickup truck. According to state police, a trooper had attempted to stop a black Infiniti around 10 a.m. near the Interstate 95 off-ramp heading to Ella T Grasso Boulevard, but the driver took off at a high rate of speed, and the trooper did not chase them. When the trooper exited the highway, they encountered a crash involving the fleeing vehicle. The driver of the Infiniti was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver has not yet been publicly identified. A passenger in the fleeing vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
