Driver, 26, charged with DUI in deadly Clinton Township collision

A 26-year-old driver is facing serious charges following a fatal crash in Clinton Township, Michigan. Torrance Irby from Detroit was accused of causing a collision that led to the death of 27-year-old El Verson Mitchell. Irby was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, failure to stop at a serious accident, and felony-commission with a motor vehicle. The crash involved Irby's Ram ProMaster van, a Ford Mustang, and a Ford Transit Connect van. The defendant fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly after. The judge set Irby's bond at $250,000, and a court hearing is scheduled for January 12. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido emphasized the preventable dangers of impaired driving in a statement following the incident.
