DPS: Driver of commercial truck tractor caused fatal crash on Highway 73

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the driver of a commercial truck tractor caused a fatal crash on Highway 73 early this morning by failing to yield the right-of-way. The preliminary crash investigation, according to the DPS, indicates that at about 4:35 a.m., the driver of a 2023 Autocar truck tractor failed to yield the right-of-way at a crossover yield intersection on State Highway 73, west of the Taylor Bayou Bridge. The truck tractor pulled into the path of a 2014 Honda and was struck in the rear by the Honda. The driver of the Honda, identified as 31-year-old man from Baytown, died at the scene. The driver of the Autocar, identified as 26-year-old David Vasquez Jr. of San Juan, was transported to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The DPS says this is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
