Des Moines police seek public’s help in locating alleged homicide by vehicle suspect
DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Des Moines Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a homicide by vehicle suspect. On April 25 at around 4:30 a.m., the DMPD responded to a report of a crash near the intersection of SE 14th Street and Hartford Avenue. According to the DMPD, Nicholas Johnston, 32, was driving southbound on SE 14th Street, ran a red light at Hartford Avenue, and then crashed into a truck. Raymond Brown, 77, was the driver of the truck and was transported to a hospital for injuries. The DMPD said Brown succumbed to his injuries roughly five days after the crash. Johnston had fled from the scene on foot before officers arrived, but the DMPD said that two days after the crash, he had contacted the department and reported his car had been stolen. The DMPD said that efforts to locate him so far have been unsuccessful. On Monday, the DMPD requested the public's assistance in finding him. Warrants for his arrest have been issued for the following charges: Anyone with information about Johnston's whereabouts is asked to call (515)283-4811.
