Deadly crash, sign on highway closes I-35 near Antioch in Merriam
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Part of Interstate 35 is closed Thursday night in Merriam, following a deadly crash and an overhead road sign falling down on the highway. The crash was reported just before 9:45 p.m. on southbound I-35, near Antioch Road. Johnson County MEDAct confirms one person has died. Other injuries or vehicles involved is unknown at this time. The Merriam Police Department said officers are on scene working to safely get cars off the highway. They are asking drivers to please avoid the area and use a different route if possible. Police said this will likely be a longer closure due to debris in the roadway. This is a developing story. FOX4 will continue to update as more information becomes available.
