Crash stops traffic on I-69
ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- A crash late Monday night has stopped traffic on I-69 northbound near the southern I-469 interchange. A public safety alert sent around 11:20 p.m. warned drivers to avoid I-69 northbound between the 293 and 306 mile markers. According to the Allen County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened at 10:40 p.m. near the 297 mile marker. That's just north of the I-69/469 interchange. Witnesses reported that a car and a motorcycle were involved. According to a preliminary investigation, the car started to pass other traffic and a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed rear-ended it. The motorcycle then continued into the median and struck a cable barrier. The operator of the motorcycle died at the scene. All northbound lanes are closed in the area, with traffic being diverted onto I-469. Southbound traffic is not affected. Drivers should expect delays and use caution while traveling through the area. The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
