Crash involving 2 semi-trucks shuts down I-65 in Madison area

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Clean up efforts are underway Wednesday morning after a fiery crash involving two semi-trucks on Interstate 65. The crash occurred around midnight in the northbound lanes of I-65 near Vietnam Veterans Boulevard. One of the trucks was hauling raw poultry, and the other was carrying miscellaneous freight, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). After the crash, a large amount of debris was scattered across the interstate. The semis continued to burn throughout the early morning. Investigators have not confirmed if anyone was injured, but medical examiner's vehicles responded to the scene. All northbound lanes of I-65 were near closed mile marker 94. The right shoulder of the roadway was opened to traffic around 7 a.m. but it is not known when the interstate will fully reopen. Traffic is being diverted off the interstate at Old Hickory Boulevard and the backup extends into the Ellington Parkway/Briley Parkway exchange. No additional information was released as the investigation continues.
