Crash forces temporary closure of Interstate 69 in Morgan County
MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. — A crash forced officials to temporarily close a portion of Interstate 69 in Morgan County Saturday night. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, I-69 was shut down in both directions at mile marker 132 — which is located just south of Martinsville — sometime before 9:42 p.m. INDOT reported that both the Morgan County Sheriff's Office and Indiana State Police responded to the scene to clean up and investigate the crash. State police confirmed that the roadway had to be shut down in both directions to allow a medical helicopter to land at the scene. INDOT, ISP and MCSO have not yet provided any information on the number or nature of the injuries the crash caused. INDOT's initial report on the crash suggests that it occurred in the southbound lanes of I-69. It is currently unclear how many cars were involved in the crash. The cause of the crash is also unknown. Officials reopened the northbound lanes of the interstate around 11:21 p.m. The southbound lanes of I-69 weren't opened until 1:04 a.m. Sunday. In total, I-69 southbound was shut down for more than three hours. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
