Coroner identifies driver in fatal crash involving semi-truck on Hwy 223
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified a man who collided with a semi-truck after running a stop sign at Highway 223 and Wible Road in January. On Jan. 7, Nathaniel Xzavier Onsurez, 21, of Bakersfield was driving a Honda CRV southbound on Wible Road at a high rate of speed while approaching the Highway 223 intersection, according to officials. According to the California Highway Patrol, Onsurez failed to stop at the stop sign and went into the intersection, colliding with a 2023 Freightliner’s semi-trailer. Both the Honda and the trailer rolled over, officials said. Onsurez was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:10 a.m.
