Closure of US 35 due to fatal accident in Wayne County
A person tragically lost their life after being hit by a vehicle close to a truck stop in Wayne County. The incident occurred early in the morning near the US 35 exit with I-70. The individual was found with severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Following a preliminary investigation, it was determined that the collision involved a truck heading southbound on U.S. 35. The driver reported not seeing the victim prior to the impact. The victim was later hit by two other trucks after the initial collision. Poor visibility due to weather conditions and the time of day may have contributed to the crash. Traffic lanes that were closed due to the incident have since been reopened, and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the crash.
