Cincinnati Metro bus driver pleads not guilty to vehicular manslaughter in fatal crash

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A Cincinnati Metro bus driver who was accused of causing a crash that killed a city employee pled not guilty to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. Kyle Taylor, 33, was accused of driving a Metro bus on July 16 and causing a crash on westbound State Route 562 involving a city read maintenance crew that resulted in the death of 46-year-old Jonathan Young. Two other workers were with Young at the time, but both managed to jump out of the way of Taylor's bus as it drove onto the shoulder of the highway, investigators said. The bus reportedly struck the rear of a maintenance truck, pushing it into a trailer that was towed by a second truck. Young was allegedly thrown from the trailer and run over by the second truck. The two other employees were reportedly on the trailer as well, but fled the vehicle in time to avoid the collision. During his arraignment on July 24, Taylor pled not guilty to second-degree misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. The victim's aunt spoke at the arraignment and asked for no bond, and one of Young's coworkers told the judge how he watched Young take his final breaths. Taylor's bond was set at 10% of $5,000. A Metro spokesperson said in a statement: "We are aware of the charges brought against Mr. Kyle Taylor. Mr. Taylor has been placed on administrative leave, which is our standard practice while the matter is under investigation. We are unable to provide further comment at this time. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Mr. Young."
