Chula Vista police cruiser involved in crash
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A Chula Vista police cruiser was involved in a collision at a busy intersection Monday afternoon. SkyFOX/KUSI in the Sky was overhead as the police cruiser with heavy front-end damage was being towed away from the intersection of Olympic Parkway and Heritage Road in Chula Vista. Chula Vista Fire responded to the collision that happened just before noon Monday. In an update Monday afternoon, the Chula Vista Police Department said an officer was heading to a rollover crash on Heritage Road with active emergency lights and sirens when the officer was involved in a separate crash at Olympic Parkway and Heritage Road. The police department reports the officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and some pain, and was later released. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. They reported some pain, but declined to be taken to the hospital. The collision is under investigation by the Chula Vista Police Department Traffic Unit. The rollover crash the officer was heading to involved a woman driver who was taken to the hospital for minor injuries after reportedly hitting a center median and rolling over. This collision comes just one day after a driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after running a red light and crashing into a Chula Vista police patrol vehicle on the same road -- Olympic Parkway.
