Child killed after vehicle flees traffic stop, crashes in West Jordan intersection

WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — A juvenile was killed in West Jordan early Saturday morning after a driver fled from police and crashed, according to West Jordan Police. At around 1:30 a.m., a South Jordan police officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the border of West Jordan. The vehicle fled, police said, and the officer initially tried to stop them but shut off the patrol car's emergency lights and stopped pursuing shortly after. The vehicle reportedly continued to flee before crashing into another vehicle at the intersection of Mountain View Corridor and Old Bingham Highway. Police have confirmed that a juvenile passenger in the fleeing vehicle has died. Another juvenile from that vehicle was reportedly taken to Primary Children's Hospital after the crash. Their condition is unknown at this time. The adult driver of the second vehicle was taken to the hospital in stable condition after the crash. The West Jordan Police Traffic Accident Investigation Team is currently investigating this incident. The intersection was closed Saturday morning following the crash. Further details regarding the deceased and the reason for the vehicle fleeing have not been made available at this time.
