Metro bus driver arrested in crash that killed city worker on Norwood Lateral

A Metro bus driver has been arrested in the crash that killed a city worker on the Norwood Lateral last week.It happened on July 16 around 12:44 p.m., shutting down the westbound lanes of State Route 562, also known as the Norwood Lateral. According to the arrest report, Kyle Taylor was driving a Metro bus on the Norwood Lateral when he failed to yield, striking the back of a city work truck which was then pushed into the back of a trailer being towed by another city work truck. The trailer had three city workers on it as they picked up advanced warning signs for a work zone.According to the crash report, the second city maintenance truck was intentionally positioned directly behind the lead truck and trailer, acting as a safety barrier to protect the work crew. According to the crash report, two of the three workers made it off the trailer, but a third worker did not, and was hit by impact, causing him to be thrown off the trailer and run over by another city maintenance truck as it was being pushed by the Metro bus. Despite the protective setup, the crash report states Taylor failed to observe the slow-moving convoy ahead, setting off the chain of events that killed the worker. That worker died as a result of the crash.He has been identified as 46-year-old Jonathan Allen Young.Taylor was also taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Treatment for injuries. Another city worker also suffered injuries and and is expected to survive.In an update Thursday, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office announced Taylor has been arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter. Metro released a statement after the crash, expressing condolences to those involved and saying the company is cooperating with law enforcement."At approximately 12:45 p.m. today, a Metro bus was involved in a collision on the Norwood Lateral. Tragically, an individual involved in the accident has died as a result of their injuries. Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time," Metro's statement said.
