A 9-year-old boy in La Mesa is recovering at home after a serious incident at a playground resulted in multiple fractures and a brain bleed. Austin was playing on a spinning device with friends when he was thrown off and hit his head on a concrete barrier. He was rushed to the hospital and underwent reconstructive surgery. Austin's mother is advocating for the removal of the concrete barriers around the playground equipment for safety reasons. A spokesperson from Liberty Military Housing has shared that they regularly inspect playgrounds for safety and are supporting the family during this difficult time. A Gofundme campaign has been launched to assist with Austin's medical expenses.
