CHICAGO — A 21-year-old Chicago man was arrested and is now facing felony DUI charges in a fatal chain-reaction crash early Sunday morning on the Eisenhower Expressway, Illinois State Police announced Tuesday. Jose Perez Marin has been charged with one felony count of aggravated DUI involving death, one felony count of aggravated DUI with no driver's license and one felony count of aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm. According to state police, troopers responded to a crash at about 3 a.m. Sunday on the outbound Eisenhower Expressway, near South Ashland Avenue on Chicago's Near West Side. State police say Perez Marin was driving a GMC SUV on I-290 when he rear-ended a Toyota SUV, causing a chain-reaction crash that involved two more vehicles. A passenger in the Toyota SUV, who authorities have since identified as 25-year-old Benjamin Farraday of Wheaton, was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. Six other people, including Perez Marin, were also hurt in the crash. State police say special agents arrested Perez Marin after he was released from the hospital. He's currently being held in custody at the Cook County Jail pending his first court appearance.
