Champlain woman charged with DWI after crash injuring two children

CHAMPLAIN | A Champlain woman was arrested on several charges following an accident involving a tractor-trailer that left two children injured last week. New York State Police said the accident happened at about 8 p.m. May 15 on Route 11. An investigation determined that a gray 2010 Toyota, operated by Jessica L. Wilson, 34, was traveling eastbound on Route 11 when, while attempting to make a left turn into a parking lot, it collided with a green 2022 tractor-trailer operated by Kevin J. Orlando, 43, of New Hampshire. Further investigation revealed that two 11-year-old female passengers were inside Wilson's vehicle at the time. Both juveniles were transported to CVPH Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers interviewed both drivers at the scene. While speaking with Wilson, troopers observed signs of impairment. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were administered, which Wilson failed. Wilson was transported to SP Champlain, where she provided a breath sample reportedly measuring 0.20% BAC. Wilson was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated DWI with a child passenger and issued multiple traffic violations. Wilson was arraigned in the Town of Champlain Court and released on her own recognizance.
