Brandon High School student dies in lake accident

BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) - Brandon police said a 17-year-old was found dead after a search and rescue operation at a private lake. The incident happened at a private lake near Marquette Road in Brandon on April 26, 2026. According to Brandon Police Chief Joseph French, police received a call just after 2:30 p.m. reporting that Noah Lee Lambert, 17, of Brandon, had jumped from a height into the lake and could not be located by his friends. Authorities responded to the scene, as well as a dive rescue team. Lambert's body was later recovered from the lake. French said the lake is located on private property with signs posted warning against trespassing. He said local teens and young adults have been known to frequent the area over the years. Lambert was a sophomore at Brandon High School. The Rankin County School District will make grief counselors available to students and faculty who have been affected by his death. "The Brandon Police Department extends its deepest condolences to Noah’s family, friends, classmates and all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this heartbreaking time, and we ask the community to respect the family’s privacy as they grieve," said French.
