Boulder causes injuries on Highway 18 near Big Bear Lake

A crash occurred on Friday night near Big Bear Lake when a large boulder fell onto Highway 18, resulting in injuries to five people, including two children. The San Bernardino County Fire Department reported that the incident took place at around 5:45 p.m. close to mile marker 44. The rock dislodged from the mountainside, causing a two-car collision. Firefighters noted that four of the five injured individuals were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The road was cleared for reopening a few hours later with the help of CalTrans crews. Collaboration from Big Bear Lake and Arrowbear Lake fire departments was also mentioned by SBCoFD. The accident was part of a series of weather-related events in Southern California following the departure of a powerful winter storm that had affected the region during the Christmas holiday. Another incident earlier that day included an EF0 tornado in Boyle Heights, and in Ventura County, significant damage occurred to a backyard due to a storm drain collapse from runoff.
