1 dead, 1 injured in head-on crash on Missouri Route 109

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - One person was killed and another was injured in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon on Missouri Route 109. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on southbound Missouri Route 109, south of Niehoff Drive. It involved a Volkswagen Jetta and a Chevrolet Express. The crash happened as the Volkswagen was traveling northbound on Missouri Route 109 while the Chevrolet was traveling southbound. At some point, officials said, the driver of the Volkswagen crossed the double yellow line and entered the path of the Chevrolet. In an effort to avoid the vehicle, the driver of the Chevrolet attempted to move onto the shoulder but was struck head-on by the Volkswagen. The driver of the Volkswagen, a 36-year-old man from Villa Ridge, was pronounced dead on the scene, MSHP said. The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
