Bellevue police arrest 25-year-old man after downtown crash, allege vehicular assault

A 25-year-old man has been arrested for vehicular assault after a multi-vehicle crash in downtown Bellevue late Saturday night, police said. Bellevue police said officers were dispatched at about 9:50 p.m. on July 25 to reports of a crash at the intersection of 110th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Eighth Street. Several witnesses told police the suspect was driving westbound on Northeast Eighth Street at a high rate of speed before slamming into several vehicles at the intersection. Police said no community members involved in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries. Those who were injured were treated by the Bellevue Fire Department at the scene or taken to an area hospital for further evaluation. Police said that before the crash, officers had begun proactive patrols focused on vehicles with modified exhausts. During that emphasis, officers identified the suspect driving a vehicle with a loud muffler near the intersection of 108th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Fourth Street, but were unable to locate the vehicle again until the crash occurred. The suspect was arrested for one count of vehicular assault and booked into the King County Jail, police said. The Bellevue Police Department said speeding incidents and noise violations remain priorities. Since the start of the year, the department’s Traffic Unit has implemented its Safer Roads Initiative, conducting routine proactive patrols to address reckless driving and noise complaints throughout the city. Police said they have also partnered with regional law enforcement to address the concerns. For June, Bellevue police said they issued 69% more speeding citations — 380 — compared with June 2025, when 225 were issued. Police also reported a 110% increase in distracted driving citations, with 143 issued in June compared with 71 in 2025. Overall, the department said it issued 47% more traffic-related citations in June — 811 — compared with 550 in 2025.
