Authorities seek tips in deadly Chatham hit-and-run
The Georgia Department of Public Safety says investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying a person of interest connected to a deadly hit-and-run crash in Chatham County earlier this month.According to the agency, the crash happened on May 10 around 6:36 p.m. on Chevis Road at the intersection of Newington Road and Beaufort Road. Investigators said the crash involved a 2015 Dodge Journey and a motorcycle.Officials say both the driver and front seat passenger of the Dodge Journey fled the scene on foot after the crash.The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is now asking anyone who may recognize a person of interest tied to the investigation to come forward. Authorities said the individual may have connections to the Chatham County area as well as Beaufort, Hardeeville, and Hilton Head in South Carolina.Anyone with information about the identity of the person of interest or details related to the fatal crash is asked to contact the Georgia State Patrol Communications Center in Statesboro at 912-688-6999. Tips can also be shared with local law enforcement agencies or Crime Stoppers.The investigation remains ongoing.
