Austin’s seventh fatal car crash of 2026 kills pedestrian
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police responded to a crash Monday, Feb. 2, involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, resulting in the death of a 75-year-old man. The crash occurred near the Austin airport at the 1100 block of Bastrop Highway in the northbound lanes. The Austin Police Department arrived on the scene around 2:15 p.m., and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived shortly after and attempted life-saving measures on the pedestrian. The pedestrian, identified as Juan Santos Castro, was pronounced dead at the scene. APD said in a press release that the incident is being investigated as Austin’s seventh fatal crash of 2026, resulting in seven fatalities. On the same date as this crash in 2025, five fatal crashes in Austin resulted in five deaths. Police said the investigation is still pending.
