At least one person dead in fatal crash on US-65 in Christian County
CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. — A crash on US-65 in southern Christian County has left at least one person dead and caused some major slowdowns Friday morning. Traffic was backed up as the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) says this deadly crash involved three people, just north of Saddlebrooke. According to MSHP, the driver was apparently trying to avoid a slow-moving vehicle ahead, possibly after being distracted, when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and collided with an embankment. Law enforcement officers say this is also a heartbreaking reminder of how fast a decision not to buckle up can turn deadly. "This is yet another tragic example of not using a maximum of three seconds to buckle a seatbelt," said MSHP Sgt. Mike McClure. "Right now, we’re approaching, statewide, 100 fatalities, and we’re looking at 68% of those fatalities were unbuckled.” Officals have not yet disclosed the condition of those who survived the crash.
