At least 1 dead after vehicle crashed off I-71 overpass onto road below

A person is dead after a vehicle crashed off an I-71 overpass onto Western Row Road in Mason early Thursday morning, according to a WCPO crew at the scene. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers told us the driver of the vehicle drove off the overpass early Thursday morning at around 2:33 a.m. Troopers said their preliminary investigation shows that 25-year-old Isaias Zepeda, from San Bernardino, California, was driving north on I-71 when he traveled off the left side of the highway and crashed into the concrete bridge overpass. Zepeda's vehicle then went over the bridge overpass, went airborne between the north and south overpasses of the highway and crashed onto Western Row Road, troopers said. As the vehicle was falling from the overpass, it also hit a utility pole, according to OSHP. Zepeda was ejected during the crash and died at the scene, troopers said. A passenger in his vehicle was taken to UC West Chester Hospital with serious injuries that troopers said were "life-threatening." OSHP said a secondary, two-vehicle crash also happened on the highway as a result of crash debris left behind on I-71 following Zepeda's crash. The crash is still under investigation by OSHP. Western Row Road was closed in both directions for hours while troopers investigated the crash; the road re-opened just before 7 a.m. I-71 was not closed during the crash investigation.
