Driver charged after man hit by 2 vehicles on Bardstown Road dies

One of two drivers is facing charges in a deadly crash on Bardstown Road involving a pedestrian.Watch our previous coverage in the player up topKevin Mutabazi, 29, died after being hit by two vehicles while trying to cross Bardstown Road near Breckenridge Lane on June 28.Police said he was crossing while not in a crosswalk and a vehicle heading south hit him.That driver did not stop.A second vehicle then hit Mutabazi, but they stopped and called 911.Mutabazi died at the scene.The driver that did not stop, 26-year-0ld Aubrey Bald, was arrested on Friday. He told police he hit Mutabazi and kept driving to his home.An arrest slip says Bald left the vehicle and keys with his mother, then called 911 and said it had been stolen around the time of the crash.Records go on to say Bald's mother got other family members involved in an attempt to conceal his involvement in the crash. Police said Bald's uncles destroyed the vehicle and dumped at the intersection of Gellhaus Lane and Chenoweth Run Road, and his mother's vehicle was caught on surveillance picking them up after.Bald is charged with leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assist with death or serious physical injury, failure to report a traffic accident, and false reporting of an incident to law enforcement.He's set to be arraigned Saturday morning.
