Arrest made in fatal I-295 collision.
A man from Providence has been taken into custody following a collision that resulted in the tragic death of a woman from Johnston. The suspect, Juan Archila, faces charges of driving recklessly leading to a fatality, as stated by the Rhode Island State Police. The victim, Casey Bassignani, aged 23, was identified by authorities. The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 3:40 p.m. on I-295 South, near Plainfield Pike in Cranston. Reports from witnesses suggest that Bassignani was driving in the fast lane when another vehicle forced her off the road, causing her to collide with a tree in the median. Bassignani was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital but was declared deceased. Archila appeared in court on Thursday before a magistrate. He was able to meet the bail requirements and was instructed not to operate a vehicle.
