Arrest made in deadly Southern California crash that killed 25-year-old motorcyclist
A 52-year-old Riverside County man was arrested in connection with a deadly crash earlier this year, authorities announced. The fatal Jan. 12 collision occurred just after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Moreno Beach Drive and Auto Mall Drive in Moreno Valley, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Responding deputies found a major injury traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle, with both vehicles sustaining severe damage. The motorcyclist, now identified as 25-year-old Moreno Valley resident Marvonna Vaxter, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later pronounced deceased. One person who was seen running from the vehicle was located a short time later and arrested for possession of controlled substance for sale and probation violation, the release noted. However, the driver of the vehicle appeared to have successfully fled the scene. As the investigation continued, Hemet resident Garaid Jones was identified as the suspect driver in the collision. On March 18, he was located and taken into custody without incident and booked at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center for murder. Detectives with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional details will be released at this time. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Deputy Jonathan Glass at the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-486-6700 or Riverside County Dispatch at 951-776-1099.
