Appleton man charged in connection with crash that killed 2

APPLETON (WLUK) -- An 18-year-old Appleton man has been charged in connection with a crash that killed a husband and wife last month on the city's north side. Giovanni Cadavid faces six counts, including two each of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and homicide by use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol content. The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. April 9 on Wisconsin Avenue at Meade Street. Police say Cadavid, who was under the influence of alcohol, ran a red light. Police have identified the victims as Alan and Margaret Hopfensperger. Margaret Hopfensperger died April 24 and Alan Hopfensperger died May 2 . Police say Cadavid, who was 17 at the time of the crash, has been receiving medical care for his injuries before recently being jailed. Cadavid is scheduled to make his first court appearance June 16.
