Alcatraz boat crash victim identified as retired Sutter County reserve deputy

(FOX40.COM) — The 79-year-old man who died when a boat capsized near Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay was a retired reserve deputy in Sutter County, local officials confirmed Wednesday. Clifford Boisa served as a reserve deputy with the Sutter County Sheriff's Office from 1987 until 2001, the office said in a news release. Sheriff Brandon Barnes offered condolences to Boisa's family, as well as all loved ones of those affected by the tragedy. "His years of dedicated service and commitment to public safety will not be forgotten," the sheriff's office said. A dog was also declared dead. Officials said the search and rescue effort will be suspended after sunset. The vessel, which came from the St. Francis Yacht Club, was described by officials as a 50-foot pontoon-style cabin cruiser called the Velari and was based out of Stockton. Most of those on board were family members who were participating in what officials described as a celebration of life memorial service when it capsized in rough seas at 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
