Accident on Greenfield Road near Community College Drive
A child was rescued and a man was taken into custody following a single-vehicle crash in Pearl on Friday night.According to the Pearl Police Department, officers responded to a crash on Greenfield Road near Community College Drive at approximately 8:44 p.m. on June 19. A caller reported that a vehicle appeared to be overturned on its side and that no one inside could be contacted.When officers arrived, witnesses told them that two people had fled the crash scene. One of the individuals was reportedly carrying a child.Police quickly began searching the area and located the female who had left the vehicle. Shortly afterward, another caller reported seeing a man holding a child underneath a nearby residence.Officers responded to the location, but the man fled on foot with the child into a heavily wooded area. The Pearl Police Department was assisted by the Brandon Police Department and the Rankin County Sheriff's Department in the search.Authorities eventually located both the man and the child in the woods. The man was taken into custody without further incident.The child was transported to Blair E. Batson Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional details have not yet been released.
